Description
This edition of Tolkien's famous illustrated letters from Father Christmas to his children appears in a new hardback format. Written between the 1920s and the 1940s, the letters tell wonderful tales of life at the North Pole, including escaped reindeer scattering presents, the accident-prone North Polar Bear's mishaps, and wars with goblins living in caves beneath Father Christmas's house. Sometimes the Polar Bear adds a note, while Ilbereth the Elf contributes elegant writing and further humour. Every December, Tolkien's children received an envelope from the North Pole containing a letter in strange, spidery handwriting and a coloured drawing or sketches. From the first note to Tolkien's eldest son in 1920 to the final poignant letter to his daughter in 1943, this enchanting collection brings together all the remarkable letters and pictures, reproduced digitally in high quality. The contents are in English.
