Description
Starr Carter (Amandla Stenberg) is a sixteen-year-old Black girl who becomes the sole eyewitness to the murder of her best friend, who is coldly shot by a white police officer. She finds herself in an unfortunate situation where she must face pressure from her community, which consists mostly of illegal Black neighbors, and on the other side from wealthy, predominantly white high school students. At just seven years old, her father Maverick (Russell Hornsby) instilled in her all the rules and guidelines necessary for survival in the community. Right now, after the murder of her friend, it is a time of trial when Starr must find the strength to stand up for what is right.
