All secrets eventually come to light. Baker (Matthew McConaughey) has probably had enough of his past. He heals his life wounds in the calm and heat of a paradise exotic island somewhere in the Caribbean. He makes a living as a fishing guide, has his own boat named The Calm Before the Storm, a house in the village, and a mistress (Diane Lane), drowning his ugly past in the bar. The calm of his life is cut through like lightning by his ex-wife Karen (Anne Hathaway), who brings a storm. Out of nowhere, she appears and desperately demands that Baker kill her current abusive husband. In the name of their shared son and in the name of one million dollars as a reward, he must take her husband on a fishing trip and throw him to the sharks in the middle of the ocean. Baker initially refuses, but the calm waters of the Caribbean paradise are already irrevocably disturbed. Guilt and fear for his son begin to haunt him even more, and he starts to consider the proposal. The ensuing wave of passions, events, and twists will reveal even the most hidden secrets.
