Description
Matouš Rozoumek, once a courtier of John of Luxembourg, stumbles upon traces of a planned rebellion by the dukes, aimed at dethroning Charles IV from the throne of the Holy Roman Empire. The conspirators are aided by a poor harvest and the resulting famine, as well as Charles's personal troubles – the death of his firstborn son, his second wife, and an untreated injury. Matouš's son, the commander of the king's personal guard, also faces complications in his life after discovering that Barborka is unfaithful to him. How will both Charleses navigate these complicated situations? Will the king find a way to break the unity of the conspirators without having to intervene militarily?
