Description
The black market for endangered flowers has skyrocketed with the ongoing extinction of species. The price that some collectors were willing to pay for a single seedling often reached perverse proportions. Certain flowers were shrouded in decadent melancholy. Adorning oneself with extinction and death. A trend that began to be revered primarily by a new layer of the wealthy. Water and agricultural barons of the Third World. The new economic elite. Kryštof met buyers who deluded themselves into thinking they were saving what could still be saved for future generations. He met others who saved nothing, only sadly indulging in all those ancient shapes and scents. All those flowers, no matter how beloved, smelled of decay. Illegal perfumes began to emerge, made from the last representatives of once-common plant species, extinct scents reminiscent of something ancient. It was akin to when people went to the Copenhagen Zoo to see the last living polar bear, which began to refuse food as if it knew it was just wasting time – as if its dead species was calling it into the void.
