Description
Ota Pavel's autobiographical book Death of Beautiful Roebucks (1971) offers in seven stories memories of a happy childhood before World War II and the occupation that dramatically affected the fate of the writer's family. When the two older sons are to be sent to transport, Leo decides to risk his life for his undernourished offspring: in the forests around his beloved Berounka, he hunts a roebuck with the help of his friend Prošek's wild wolfhound. He then brings it home past German patrols...
