Description
The Night at Karlštejn, directed by Zdeněk Podskalský and complemented by catchy songs from Karel Svoboda, is a timeless spectacle for many generations. The historical details and the era are also attractive, perceived as a colorful backdrop for two love stories: the marital love of Emperor Charles IV and his wife Elizabeth of Pomerania, and the budding partnership between the niece of the burgrave, Alena, and the royal cupbearer, Pešek. The ban on women entering the premises of Karlštejn is thus broken twice: the empress secretly comes here to be close to her beloved yet distant husband, while Alena, disguised as a squire, wants to spend the night at the castle to win a bet with her father, who disapproves of her dream marriage. They all become witnesses to a complicated game of disguises, in which, of course, love ultimately triumphs over court etiquette.
