Description
The pure and dreamy Berounka River and the experiences of a happy childhood with father, mother, and two brothers—this is how the poetic film based on Ota Pavel's stories How I Met Fish begins. A childhood in which father's flamboyance, mother's care, and the river play a role. The little boy, nicknamed Prdelka, is guided in fishing by his father and the ferryman Prošek. This hobby helps the boy and his mother survive after father and the older brothers were taken to a concentration camp... Karel Kachyňa, one of the great Czech directors, created many extraordinarily impressive films not only for the cinema but also for television. Among the highlights of his television dramatic work is undoubtedly Golden Eels. The film won the Grand Prize at the international Prix Italia festival in 1979 and became a television classic that touches generations of viewers with its unpretentious humanity, poetics, and lack of pathos.
