Description
In the second half of the 18th century, when Prague is ravaged by the recent Seven Years' War, young Josef Mysliveček departs for Italy. Despite being the son of a miller, he wants to fulfill his dream and make a name for himself in this center of European musical activity as an opera composer. Thanks to his talent, as well as his charisma and luck, he manages to break through in a few years amidst fierce competition from Italian composers. As a highly prestigious servant of the ruling class, he gains access to the highest social circles and the unwavering favor of women. Unfortunately, not the one he desires the most. He therefore tries to channel his feelings into his musical work. Without the possibility of living with the woman he loves, he must settle for other pleasures, which take their toll. The sick Mysliveček, gradually shunned by his former supporters and patrons, ultimately dies poor and forgotten at the age of just forty-four.
