The comedy with elements of magical realism serves up universal questions of human life with exaggeration and humor. The screenplay of the film by Jan Svěrák was inspired by the beloved stories of Zdeněk Svěrák. Aging writer Karel Šejnoh (Zdeněk Svěrák) finds that writing doesn't come as easily as it used to. Unfinished stories pile up in his head, their characters crawl into the light of day, demanding that the author continue their tales. Everyone wants something. Photographer Matěj wants to win the unattainable Vendula from the pharmacy, Mr. Bohumil begs for a miracle, and mechanic Bakalář wishes to become a healer. Meanwhile, Šejnoh's wife from the real world thinks he should stop writing and finally devote himself to her.
