The year is 1939. Antonina Żabińska (Academy Award® nominated* Jessica Chastain) and her husband successfully run a zoo in Warsaw, Poland, and raise their children in an idyllic environment. Their world turns upside down when Poland is invaded by the Nazis and a zoologist from the Reich (Daniel Brühl) arrives at the zoo. Nevertheless, the Żabińskis risk everything as they secretly collaborate with the resistance and hide those targeted by Nazi brutality in the basement beneath the zoo.
