The story follows Oscar Diggs (James Franco), an unknown circus magician of somewhat dubious morals, who finds himself in the Land of Oz, full of color and life. Oscar believes this is his chance of a lifetime... until he meets three witches (Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, and Michelle Williams), who, unlike everyone else, are not convinced that he is the great Wizard they have all been expecting. Reluctantly, Oscar must gradually navigate the troubles that the Land of Oz and its inhabitants face, and quickly figure out who is good and who is evil. He must use all his magical abilities, and with various tricks, his ingenuity, and occasionally some magic, he manages to become the great Wizard and perhaps even a better person.
