The legendary Czech first-republic actor Jára Kohout was one of the biggest stars of film and theater in his time. Originally a dentist, he first became famous as a partner of another beloved comedian - Ferenc Futurista. Later, he surpassed his great teacher and became a major theater entrepreneur. Not only did he buy the premises of the Liberated Theater from Jan Werich, but he also purchased today's Švandovo Theater. Thousands of sold-out performances of several shows. Every evening packed to the rafters. The advent of sound film only enhanced his popularity. He hardly played any leading roles, but his masterfully crafted characters remain part of the golden fund of Czech cinematography to this day. After the war, he quickly realized that there would be no place for his type of humor in a communist country. In 1948, he prepared an original escape across the border, which is still among the most curious cases of Czech emigration. Disguised as a rooster, he left in the middle of a performance prepared for border guards and their wives. Before the announced intermission of the program ended, Kohout and his entire family were in German territory. After some time, he began to build a new career in the USA.
