Description
The cruel fifties and the beautiful relationship between a grandfather and grandson in Moravian Slovakia. The novella Shadow was written by Jiří Křižan in 1968, but he did not live to see its Czech publication. The hope for publication was thwarted by normalization. In 1990, it became the basis for the film Silent Pain with Rudolf Hrušínský in the lead role. "It is a story of quietly experienced pain and reconciliation, a story as powerful as plum brandy."
