Description
Read by Miroslav Táborský - the tragic story of Bohumil "Bóža" Modrý, the best hockey goalkeeper in the world of the 1940s and 1950s. The war stole his best years of his career. After its end, he still managed to lead the national team to two world championship titles and a silver Olympic medal in London in 1948. A regime change prevented him from moving to his dream NHL. In protest against the failure to keep the promise of moving abroad, he ended his career in 1949. However, this did not stop the communist dictatorship from making him the head of a fictitious espionage group a year later. Along with most of the national team, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison in the fabricated trial at the Jáchymov labor camp. After an amnesty in 1955, he returned home as a broken, sick man. He died in July 1963 at the age of 46 from the consequences of hard work in a uranium mine, without any protective equipment. In May 2011, he was inducted into the International Hockey Hall of Fame. The bonus chapter Angelus ante portam inferam was written and narrated by Robert Záruba.
