Panna v ledu - CDmp3 (Čte Pavel Soukup)

When refugees struggle through a snow-covered landscape, they can easily find themselves in danger. The conflict over the throne between Stephen and Matilda continues, civilians suffer in the war, and the English countryside lies under an exceptionally harsh winter. In December 1139, so much snow falls that it has not been seen for ten years, and refugees from Worcester, recently plundered by enemy forces, wander near Shrewsbury through a land gripped by ice. The monk Elias knows the power of the bitter cold well, having nearly died after being beaten by thugs, and his Benedictine brother Cadfael hurries to treat him. At a neighbouring abbey, the compassionate herbalist learns that the noble siblings Ermina and Yves are also in danger. They have become lost on the plains after their guide, Hilarie, dies. When the poor nun’s body is found, it becomes clear that the frost has merely completed a crime committed by someone else. Investigating the girl’s rape proves far more complicated. There are suspects in abundance, including an entire band of robbers, although the crime was probably not committed by the brutal outlaws. Someone has exploited their reputation. To uncover the killer, Cadfael must read the tracks in the snow and arrange a resurrection. As luck begins to favour him, he receives a sweet Christmas surprise.
