However, an old dwarven legend mentions a Fifth Elephant, which was said to have fallen somewhere in the territory of present-day Überwald in ancient times. Nevertheless, Lord Vetinari is more interested in the rich reserves of fat found in that godforsaken wilderness, no matter where they came from. Therefore, he watches the approaching election of the Lower King with great interest: an event vital for the future prosperity of Ankh-Morpork, which has meanwhile become the largest city of dwarves beyond their original homeland. It would certainly be useful to have a man on the ground – so why not make Sir Samuel Elánia, Duke of Ankh and Commander of the City Watch, the Ankh-Morpork ambassador to Überwald! And while he will be facing backward-looking dwarves, arrogant vampires, and violent werewolves with a carefully assembled (read: racially balanced) squad, his beloved watch awaits under the command of a newly minted captain...
