Description
This Czech-language MP3 audiobook presents seven interviews with refugees from North Korea, selected from several dozen conversations by Czech Koreanist Nina Špitálníková to portray different aspects of everyday life in one of the world’s most isolated countries. The respondents include a university student, a pensioner, a black-market trader and a feminist, who share their experiences, memories, feelings and fears with the empathetic interviewer. Their accounts reveal conditions that surpass even the wildest dystopian visions, made all the more horrifying by the fact that they describe the reality of the twenty-first century rather than fiction. The audiobook is narrated by Milena Steinmasslová, Gustav Hašek, Vladimír Javorský, Eliška Zbranková, Kristýna Podzimková, Alexej Pyško, Johanna Tesařová and Nina Špitálníková, with Nina Špitálníková also taking part as interviewer. The work received the 2021 Magnesia Litera award for journalism and has a running time of 5 hours and 55 minutes.
