Description
Nothing is as it seems at first glance... High school student Geneva was the target of an attempted murder in the library. A professional killer failed on the first try, but no one doubts that he will try again. The investigation is taken on by wheelchair-bound detective Lincoln Rhyme along with his partner Amelia Sachs, who serves as his eyes and hands. The gathered clues, led by the twelfth tarot card depicting The Hanged Man, lead Rhyme to believe that the key to unraveling the entire mystery lies in a story over a hundred years old about former slave Charles Singleton. This man, who played a significant role in the civil rights movement in the 19th century but was later arrested for theft and disgraced, is the ancestor of the attacked student, who is currently writing a school paper about him. Rhyme and Sachs have just two days to find answers to a series of questions if they want to save the girl's life. What did Charles really do long ago? What secret did he leave for his descendants? Has Geneva uncovered something that puts her life in danger?
