Description
"It's not nonsense!" Joyce protested. "I saw a murder! I saw!" Ariadne Oliver found herself at a Halloween party for teenagers quite by chance, yet many know she is a famous detective fiction author. One of the invited girls – perhaps to gain attention – confides to those present that she once saw a murder too, but of course, no one believes her. The evening's program, held in a lavish house in the town of Woodleigh Common, includes a contest for the best-decorated broom, a cake made from packed flour is cut for a half-shilling, the girls gaze into mirrors hoping to catch a glimpse of their future husbands, and the children compete in pairs to catch apples with their mouths from a bucket filled with water. However, at the end of the successful celebration, it turns out that Joyce has disappeared. When her corpse is found in the library, a distraught Mrs. Oliver promptly seeks out her friend Hercule Poirot to help her clarify the death of the boastful young lady. Even in the successful TV adaptation featuring David Suchet, the character of au-pair Olga Seminoff appears. She was inspired by a teacher from Prachatice, with whom Agatha Christie corresponded for many years. Duration of the recording: 8 hours 7 minutes.
