In Cape Town, he gathered strength, provisions, and a supply of memories of kind land-dwellers in the autumn of 1990, and with his companions Vojta and Julka, nicknamed Sorel, he sets out to circumnavigate Antarctica. In the waters of the South Atlantic, Indian Ocean, and Pacific, his ship Polárka stops not only at places of stark beauty, such as the Crozet Islands or Kerguelen, but also in the enchanting coves of Tasmania, New Zealand, and beneath the moai statues of Rapa Nui. This travelogue collage of impressions, life reflections of new acquaintances, and Zen insights from a brilliant storyteller demonstrates that a sailor with his heart on his sleeve has brothers everywhere and that he often encounters emigrants from the old homeland, which is now freshly shorter by Slovakia. Moreover, hundreds of Krautschneider's fragments sprinkled with sea salt offer a three-year encounter with the undulating vastness that compels one at the helm of fate to ponder what transcends us.
