It is like a ghost... Where is it hiding? A large Chinese cargo ship carrying refugees and human slaves approaches the port on Long Island. American authorities have managed to determine that an internationally wanted criminal known as the Ghost is also on board, and they have requested the cooperation of the renowned detective Rhymes and his assistant Sachs. The Coast Guard sets out to arrest the Ghost, but the ship likely explodes intentionally, and the Ghost escapes on a raft. However, other rescue vessels also reach the shore, which the Ghost perceives as a threat and begins to murder former fellow passengers one by one. Fortunately, two families survive the rampage, while the criminal disappears into the labyrinth of New York's Chinatown, where he receives protection from the underworld. Rhymes has no choice but to fully immerse himself in Chinese culture if he wants to uncover the clues: he will either succeed or die.
