Description
When the price for sin is too high… Worldly Brother Cadfael has retreated to a monastery in Shrewsbury after various life adventures, where he tends to gardening and is particularly proud of his herb garden. It is the year 1137, and the prior decides to acquire the relics of the Welsh martyr Winifred for the abbey. Brother Cadfael joins a group sent for this purpose to Gwytherin, to interpret during negotiations as a native Welshman. Upon arrival, however, they find that the effort to transport the relics meets resistance from the local people, led by the noble Rhisiart. He is soon murdered. Some claim that Winifred herself pierced him with a mysterious arrow, but Cadfael suspects that a mortal hand held the bow, so he resolutely embarks on an investigation. The first part of the legendary historical detective series featuring Brother Cadfael, which also inspired the British television series (1994-1998) starring Derek Jacobi.
