Description
What do we not know about our closest ones? When Bohdana's dying grandmother addresses her by a foreign name, the shy and withdrawn girl begins to search for her family's past. Her estranged and grumpy father, with whom she struggles to establish a closer relationship, does not make her efforts any easier. Her only support is her kind-hearted stepmother Běla, who ultimately always submits to the orders and moods of her husband. Bohdana's narrative alternates with the story of Svatopluk Žák, a devoted communist who dedicated his entire life to building socialism, in which, however, his beloved wife and adored daughter do not see their future as rosy as he does. An unexpected tragedy, however, completely changes the situation and turns Svatopluk into a completely different person. The author's intimate family drama once again shows that "small" personal history can be just as important as great history, because everything that happened before we came into the world fundamentally influences our further life.
