American pathologist Margaret Campbell returns to the United States. When a truck full of dead Chinese people is found in southern Texas, she is called to the case, along with Beijing detective Li Jen, who is currently working at the Chinese embassy in Washington for political reasons. Li is determined to find out why his compatriots suffocated in a sealed refrigerated truck somewhere in America, but he must once again work with the woman who escaped from China and from his life. Together, they are tasked with uncovering who is behind the illegal Chinese immigrant trade that led to the Texas tragedy. During the investigation, they discover that the refugees have become involuntary carriers of a deadly cargo that could soon spell doom for all humanity.
