Description
A guide to the works of the genius Renaissance playwright for children and youth will present twelve of his plays in chronological order (The Merchant of Venice, As You Like It, Much Ado About Nothing, Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Twelfth Night, The Taming of the Shrew, Hamlet, King Lear, Macbeth, Othello, and The Tempest), but it will also explore their sources of inspiration, cultural context, and the circumstances of their creation. Each play is supplemented with insights into the external manifestations of the time – such as Renaissance fashion, architecture, Italian literature, the journeys of the English to the south, the relationship of the old continent to the colonies – and historical contexts. Listeners will thus become acquainted not only with stories that are key to European cultural awareness but also with various interesting facts that accompanied their creation. Performers: Michal Balcar, Igor Bareš, Veronika Khek Kubařová, Milena Steinmasslová, Martin Stránský, and Jana Stryková. Length of recording: 7 hours 31 minutes.
