The final part of the Luxembourg pentalogy brings notes from the life of the last Luxembourger on the Czech throne – Sigismund. While Václav's reign and his person are often viewed with hesitation, the assessment of Sigismund is usually quite clear. Few rulers are so universally condemned. However, the personality of the last Luxembourger on the Czech and later the Roman throne is much more interesting and complex. What can we actually blame Sigismund for? What was he really like? Was he truly a dishonorable man? Was he a perjurer? The murderer of Hus? Or the savior of Europe during the time of multiple popes? Although Sigismund was not as favored as his older brother Václav, he admired his father, Charles IV, and tried to follow in his footsteps as best as he could. However, he did not have everything "served" to him like Václav IV. From his first political steps, he had to fight hard for what belonged to him and was denied. He had to win battles he did not want, and he had enemies among those who were supposed to help him.
