This Czech-language audio adaptation presents Choderlos de Laclos’s timeless epistolary novel in a new translation. The controversial story reveals the amorous strategies of the pleasure-seeking aristocrats Marquise de Merteuil and Vicomte de Valmont, who manipulate other people’s feelings for their own pleasure and delight in power. Their cruel game with love and passion has consequences. The outwardly respectable Marquise de Merteuil, voiced by Vilma Cibulková, initiates a cynical scheme involving the innocence of her young protégée Cécile Volanges, voiced by Klára Issová, and the virtue of the married Madame de Tourvel, voiced by Kristýna Frejová. Her accomplice is the notorious womanizer Vicomte de Valmont, voiced by Jiří Dvořák, who has undertaken to seduce both women as part of a wager. The young Chevalier Danceny, voiced by Jan Meduna, madly in love with the innocent Cécile, who is due to marry someone else, could learn much from him. The novel’s letter-based form takes on a fitting audio form, with each main character given a distinct voice and Igor Bareš as the narrator. Music by French composer Benoît Bories also accompanies these merciless games of deceptive love.
