Premiere 2001 Total runtime [min] 50 Sound CS Film record of an expedition to the recently opened Makalu-Barun National Park. This remote and hard-to-access area in eastern Nepal borders Everest to the west and Kanchenjunga to the east. The filmed material is divided into two parts. The first describes the arduous journey from Tumlingtar through Shipton La to the Barun River valley to the base camp under Makalu, to the Barun Glacier, and to the pre-summit Peak 3 /5795m/. The second maps the descent route along the legendary Arun River back to the airport. The film informs not only about the natural beauties and the history of the mountain's conquest but also about the way of life and customs of the local inhabitants.
