Description
The singing career of tenor Ben Blachut (1913–1985) was intrinsically linked to Czech music. During his more than forty years on the opera stages in Olomouc and at the National Theatre in Prague, as well as guest performances in other opera houses, concert halls, and church choirs, he sang nearly everything from baroque pastorals to romantic songs, period cantatas, and from fundamental milestones of Czech opera creation to world premieres of new works. In Blachut's era – from the 1940s to the 1980s – the cornerstone of the stage repertoire included the operas of Bedřich Smetana and Antonín Dvořák. Alongside them, Blachut performed on the stages of the National Theatre and in most Czechoslovak and many foreign opera houses in the operas of thirteen other Czech composers. Audio recordings preserved in the archives of Czech Radio, Supraphon, and Czech Television captured not only all the main stage roles from Smetana's and Dvořák's operas in Blachut's interpretation but also his vocal performances prepared solely for recording. ***** Total time CD1 78:06 / CD2 79:39
