Description
This historic 1995 recording was captured at the jazz festival in Brecon, Wales, during the peak period of the orchestra’s large lineup, when it still included not only Ondřej Havelka but also Sestry Havelkovy and many other original members. The exceptional live performance demonstrates how the Original Prague Syncopated Orchestra could entertain and enthral audiences, and above all, the level of interpretive perfection to which bandleader Pavel Klikar brought the ensemble through twenty years of painstaking and extraordinarily demanding work. Released as OPSO successfully celebrates its fiftieth season, the album shows that this music still has something to say and can continue to inspire listeners. The repertoire includes Squeeze Me, Those Panama Mammas, Lovin’ Sam, Where’s My Sweetie Hiding?, I’m Going South, California, Here I Come, Wabash Blues, Red Hot Mama, Static Strut, Me and the Man in the Moon, Doin’ the New Low Down, Jungle Mama, It’s the Girl, I’m Crazy Over You, You Don’t Like It - Not Much, Travellin’ All Alone, My Cutie’s Due at Two-To-Two Today, I’m the Medicine Man for the Blues, Is She My Girl Friend?, Blues In My Heart, He’s Still My Baby, Long, Deep and Wide, I Know You Are Lying, Squeeze Me and Sobbin’ Blues.
