Among the long line of poets set to music and interpreted by Vladimír Veit, Jaroslav Seifert cannot be missed. The singer-songwriter is not encountering his poetry for the first time; he recorded the lullaby on his legendary debut album Texty (1982), and other poems appeared on his exile album Ve lví stopě (1985) as well as later on privately released records Jménem poesie (2003) and Křišťálové studánky (2004). In the year of his seventy-fifth birthday, Vladimír Veit returned to Seifert's poetic gems and prepared a whole album called Milenci ve sněhu. The combination of purely Czech poetry with Veit's melodies resulted in recordings that nicely demonstrate that our urban singer-songwriter tradition is still alive, even though it is often overlooked and drowned out by the everyday noise. Together with the poet and the singer-songwriter, we can at least for a moment get closer to some of the beauties of the world.
