In the text of the book, we learn how gossip originates, what relationship it has to our emotions, how and when children start gossiping, the differences in female and male gossip, what gossip exists in organizations, how scientists gossip, and how social networks engage in gossip, among whose dark sides is the spread of negative, stigmatizing, and untrue gossip. The conclusion of the book is dedicated to celebrities, who live off gossip just as the media that create and destroy these celebrities do. There is no defense.
