Josef Streichl (September 8, 1949 – August 11, 2013), known to everyone as Pepa, was a Czech singer-songwriter. He began performing publicly in the late sixties and was even sentenced in 1969 for playing a song against the Russian occupation. He gradually found his place in blues music. He mostly played solo or in various groups, particularly with Richard Kroczek Sr. He always operated somewhat in the shadow of his more confident colleagues, some of whom, like Jaromír Nohavica or Vlastimil Redl, he personally helped to establish themselves on folk stages. In the early nineties, he suffered a stroke, which he managed to overcome. After 1989, he recorded several now-unavailable studio albums with smaller record labels. On the occasion of what would have been Josef Streichl's seventieth birthday, all his studio albums are being reissued, accompanied by an album containing unreleased home and live recordings from his estate. The limited edition set of five CDs is supplemented by a forty-page booklet that includes song lyrics, an interview with Ondřej Bezr, and brief memories from Streichl's colleagues.
