Description
Poet Jiří Orten (1919-1941) has captivated generations of readers with his lyricism. A few weeks before his tragic death in occupied Prague in 1941, he completed a collection of nine elegies, a remarkable poetic testament in which he bid farewell to his life. Orten's Elegies are not an expression of fear or horror at what is to come, even though each verse carries the sadness of the awareness of the end and the inevitability of the final things of a person, in his case, barely twenty-two years old. Mirek Kovářík encountered Orten's poetry as early as 1963, repeatedly recited it, and after more than half a century, he finally recorded his interpretation of the Elegies accompanied by music from Jiří Pertl. With his compelling rendition, he fulfills Orten's message, in which the image of Death is transformed into the Beauty of Expression and into the comfort that nothing ends that is aimed at the heart of anyone who feels the need to accept the poet's message. Orten's 'Endless Story' is now being passed on by Kovářík to listeners as well.
