Description
The first full-length program of the group Extempore, Funeral of the Undertaker or Moldy Embryo from 1975, brought a series of raw, ironic, and unpolished songs by Jaroslav Neduha and guitar experiments by Jiří Hradec. The program, full of dark humor, irony, and parodies, fully confirmed the transformation of the former folk duo into a rock band with the appropriate sound. Besides enthusiastic audiences, the members of Extempore also began to attract the interest of the State Security, as it was clear to them that the songs certainly did not celebrate the happy life of workers in then Czechoslovakia. A contemporary observation was noted by Mikoláš Chadima in his book Alternative: 'It was a program called Funeral of the Undertaker. And I was staring like a bull. It was excellent. I only knew Neduha as a folk musician, now he was playing with a rock band music that I devoured completely. After a long time, it was again a great musical experience.' The group could not, of course, even consider a professional recording of their repertoire; had that happened, today the basic series of classic domestic big beat albums would be richer by one unmistakable title. The contemporary recording is thus being officially released on CD for the first time with a forty-year delay, accompanied by insightful commentary from Jaroslav Riedel.
