Description
Panoptikum of Sinful People (1971), this is the title of the second of three collections of detective stories by Jiří Marek set in the interwar Prague. The stories were based on real events that caused sensations in the old days. They concern the cases of Chief Police Commissioner Knotek, his successor Commissioner Vacátek, and members of the murder squad, inspectors Bouše, Brůžek, and Mrázek, which were later also captured in famous television adaptations, in the series Sinful People of Prague (1968, directed by Jiří Sequens) and Panoptikum of Prague (1988, directed by Antonín Moskalyk), where after the death of Commissioner Vacátek, Commissioner Korejs appeared. Four feature films were also made with Commissioner Vacátek (J. Marvan) in 1970 and 1971 ( The Game of the Beautiful Dragoon, Pěnička and Paraplíčko, The Death of the Black King, Murder at the Excelsior Hotel). Through the author's subtle humor, kindness, compassion for human sins, and his linguistic mastery, the nostalgic world of the then metropolis and its peripheries, as well as a number of distinctive characters, come to life. Total duration: 13 hours 29 minutes 51 seconds
