Description
In the novella The Roofer, Miloň Čepelka looks back at the era of Husák's normalization, when people with artistic ambitions in the so-called gray zone convinced themselves that despite all fears and evasive maneuvers, they had their lives under control. The story, subtitled Images from the Life of Ing. Řezníček, narrated with ironic detachment, is the author's tribute to the Czech language, so diverse in vocabulary and style. "What was life like for Ing. Řezníček and the people around him during the time of Czech pseudo-socialism? Exciting? Desperate? Disgusting? Immoral, faithful, treacherous, miserable, misguided, fruitful, barren, happy, hopeful, hopeless, instructive, cheerful, sad, empty, colorful? Is it worth examining? It is. But no matter how we answer, we will be far from the truth. May you enjoy listening! Total duration: 4 hours 21 minutes.
