Eliška Krásnohorská – a Czech writer and advocate for women's rights, is best known for her novels, poems, and librettos for operas, but her later work predominantly focused on children's literature. At that time, it was still an unknown phenomenon – original Czech reading material aimed at the youngest or adolescents was rare and not always of high quality. She won children's hearts with works such as: From Fairy Tale to Fairy Tale, Motherwort, Winter Evening Tales, and Into the Stream of Life.
