The Baptism of Saint Vladimir, the last of three satirical poetic compositions written during Havlíček's exile in Brixen, is considered an immortal classic of Czech literature. The master of satirical epigrams in 1855 versified the narrative of medieval writings about the arrival of Christianity in Russia and infused it with his perspective on religion and the regime of Russian autocracy, and indeed on absolutist power in general.
