Description
It is a powerful human story, brilliantly written by an author who suddenly appeared and shone on the literary scene after the year 2000. Věra Hofmanová, also known as Květa Legátová, was awarded the State Prize for Literature in 2002 for her book Želary. The novel Jozova Hanule can be understood as a continuation of the short story cycle Želary, but it does not complete it; rather, it complements it. The book has been translated into many languages. Shortly thereafter, a film script was created based on the literary work, and the film Želary (2003) was made. At the center of the novel Jozova Hanule, set during the German occupation of our republic, is the doctor Eliška. Together with her friend Slávek and her married lover Richard, she becomes involved in resistance activities. However, this is soon discovered, and Richard emigrates. Slávek warns Eliška of the danger that now threatens her and convinces her to leave the city. Her future home is to be the village of Želary in Moravian Slovakia, and her husband is to be a simple, uneducated lumberjack named Joza, a patient whose life she saved by donating her blood in the hospital. Eliška is forced to change her identity and adopt a new name - Hana... The story touches on something that is somehow familiar, deep, and understandable to most people, as it is about every person's effort to achieve...
