Description
A romance about a girl from Žižkov, two brothers, a lost shoemaker, and unripe grapes. A nostalgically toned narrative from the working-class environment of Prague's Žižkov with an unmistakable atmosphere of the 1930s. It returns to the times of the futile struggles of small craftsmen against the competition of machine production from large factories in the pre-Munich republic. It follows the fate of shoemaker Vincenc Bursík and his efforts in the unequal battle against the Baťa concern, as well as the years of growing up and rivalry between his two characteristically different sons. Their first romantic flares, but also the search for a place in life marked by social uncertainty of the 1930s and later occupation.
