Description
After losing his pilot’s license and his job as a transport-news radio reporter because of his lack of discipline, Billy Covington has no choice but to accept work for the airline Air America. He soon finds himself among a group of wild pilots led by Gene Ryack, rebel fighters and corrupt government soldiers smuggling drugs. Working in Laos under extremely harsh and dangerous conditions, the pilots are constantly shelled by guerrillas hidden in the jungle. Alongside official missions, including transporting heroin from General Sung’s laboratories to finance American aid, they make extra money trading weapons and drugs. When a senator arrives looking for a scapegoat to punish for the drug trade, the general and the American bosses try to blame Billy. He sees through them and hides with the cargo. Gene eventually sacrifices the weapons he has collected to save people from a local camp on a poppy field occupied by the general.
