Description
The main character of the mostly humorous episodes from military life in 1953 is Private Danny Smiřický. The young man and his 'comrades' experience the war in a truly 'Czech' way. They effortlessly resist the dullness of the permanently harassing communist officers, while only thinking about civilian life, women, and drinking. Danny constantly reminisces about the inaccessible Lizetka and experiences a romantic affair with the officer's lady, Janinka Pinkasová. The tank battalion was the first attempt to look at the absurdity of war and preparations for it through Eastern European eyes. It was produced by Bonton shortly after the 'Velvet' Revolution as the first feature film outside the state monopoly established by the nationalization decree of 1945 and became the event of the season.
