Description
Miloš Hlavica, Roman Hemala, Pavel Pípal, Josef Patočka. The novel by a classic of Czech literature depicts the dramatic changes in conditions on the Czech-Bavarian border in the last quarter of the 19th century, when the established way of life in the "world of forest solitude" was disrupted by a natural disaster. The dramatized reading in installments features Miloš Hlavica, Roman Hemala, Josef Patočka, Petr Pelzer, Zuzana Šavrdová, Jana Drbohlavová, Taťjana Medvecká, and others. Directed by Petr Adler in 1991. In the 1870s, a storm destroyed vast areas of the Šumava forests. However, this calamity did not only cause material damage - paradoxically, it soon brought unexpected but only temporary prosperity to local forest workers and other settlers. Due to the bark beetle's rampage, there arose a need to process the wood in the affected stands as quickly as possible. The destructive power of quickly acquired wealth, however, adversely affects the traditional way of life of the Šumava old settlers; only those with the strongest morals can resist its devastating influence. Duration 5 hours 32 minutes 00 seconds.
