The main character of the comedy Koule is a former famous athlete who reflects on her life full of comical, awkward, but also painful contradictions in a radio studio. The premiere of the play in January 2011 generated an unprecedented response. Regarding his sources of inspiration and motivations for writing this play, David Drábek said at the time: "I do not deny inspiration from real characters, but I was much more interested in creating a story about a truly amphibious Czech dominatrix, a symbol of what is both pathetic and desperate about Czechs, but also strangely irresistible and, in fact, vital. A mixture of kitsch and the peculiar sadness of this plebeian nation. Along with its trump card in the form of a sense of humor. And there is also the frightening theme of state-controlled doping, where athletes were dosed with such a quantity of filth that it irreversibly damaged their health. And many doctors were involved in this devilish Bolshevik project, who thus lost the battle with their conscience and oath - that is what the play Koule is about more than anything else."
