The premiere of the play in January 2011 generated an unprecedented response. Regarding his sources of inspiration and motivations for writing this play, David Drábek said at the time: "I do not deny inspiration from real characters, but I was much more interested in creating a story about a truly amphibious Czech dominatrix, a symbol of what is both pathetic and desperate about Czechs, but also strangely irresistible and, in fact, vital. A mixture of kitsch and the peculiar sadness of this plebeian nation. Along with its trump card in the form of a sense of humor. And there is also the frightening theme of state-controlled doping, where athletes were dosed with such a quantity of filth that it irreversibly damaged their health. And many doctors were involved in this devilish Bolshevik project, who thus lost the battle with their conscience and oath - that is what the play Koule is about more than anything else."
