Description

This game was popular in ancient India under names that translate to the Game of Self-Discovery, Ladder to Salvation, or Steps to the Highest Place, which highlight the significance of the game content. The games were associated with traditional Hindu philosophy, contrasting karma and kama, or fate and desire. Many of the game board designs were filled with symbolic images, where the upper part represented gods and angels, while the lower part of the board was covered with images of animals, flowers, and people. Ladders represented virtues such as generosity, faith, and humility, while snakes represented vices such as lust, anger, murder, and theft. The moral lesson of the game was that a person could achieve salvation by doing good, but by doing evil, they would be reborn as lower forms of life. Currently, most of the cumbersome moral lessons have been replaced with simpler illustrations; however, the essence of the game remains true to history – on various squares are ladders that move players forward on the game board, and snakes that pull players back. The player who reaches the last square first is declared the winner! Contents: 4 game pieces 1 die 1 game board (foldable, dimensions when folded 29 x 29 cm) instructions for use (for 2 – 4 players) Warning: Not suitable for children under 3 years...
