Metrobolist (aka The Man Who Sold the World) - LP

David Bowie was one of the most important figures in world music, a renowned musical chameleon and a pioneer of several musical styles. During his career, the British artist released 25 albums, many of which became part of the lasting heritage of popular music and influenced generations of musicians across several genres. Bowie released his final album Black Star on 8 January 2016, on his 69th birthday and just two days before his death. This LP commemorates the 50th anniversary of his album The Man Who Sold the World, with new mixes of nine tracks by Toni Visconti, presented in the originally planned artwork. The album was intended to be called Metrobolist, but its title was changed literally at the last minute before release. During the recording, Bowie was more preoccupied with his new wife Angie than with the album itself, so all the songs were arranged by his collaborators, guitarist Mick Ronson and producer Tony Visconti. Their work gave the album a rougher, almost heavy-metal sound that sets it apart from its predecessor Space Oddity. The title track gained renewed popularity in the 1990s when the American band Nirvana performed it on MTV Unplugged in 1994.
