This three-CD collection of Christmas songs celebrates the peaceful December season, family gatherings and the festive spirit through the voice of Karel Gott, a superb bel canto tenor. It brings together almost fifty recordings spanning the 1980s to 2020, including Vánoční by Richard Krajčo, the last newly released recording featuring Gott’s voice. The selection ranges from songs rooted in Czech and Moravian folk traditions and music bordering on the classical to American traditional songs and standards, as well as outstanding Czech compositions. It includes Nesem vám noviny, Pastýři, vstávejte, Já bych rád k Betlému, Tichá noc, Ukolébavka, Už všechno spí, Alžbětinská serenáda, Chtíc aby spal, Už z hor zní zvon, Bílé Vánoce, Rolničky, Jaká to nádhera, Jsou svátky, Čas vánoční and Purpura. Alongside Karel Gott, the collection features Lucie Bílá, Marta Kubišová, Ivana Snopová, Lucie Vondráčková and Charlotte Ella Gottová as vocal partners. Compiler Miloš Skalka drew on the catalogues of several record companies and the Czech Television archive to create an extensive Christmas collection for listening while baking, decorating, dining, opening presents and relaxing.
