Description
This 2LP reissue brings together two legendary albums by Golden Kids, the trio of Marta Kubišová, Helena Vondráčková and Václav Neckář. The project was unusual when it emerged in the late 1960s, not only in Czechoslovakia: although pop groups with male and female musicians existed, it was rare for already famous solo singers to join forces. Under the artistic and production direction of Bohuslav “Bob” Ondráček, the three performers created a distinctive group built on three unique vocal styles and a visually complete presentation. Their appearances abroad, including at the MIDEM record fair in Cannes, showed that they could attract international interest around the time of the Prague Spring. Marta’s mysterious alto, Helena’s radiant soprano and Václav’s youthful energy complemented one another in specially written songs such as “Tý líný řeky proud,” “Nestůj a pojď – U nás máme mejdan,” “Zlý dlouhý půst” and “Nautilus,” as well as carefully chosen covers including “Čaroděj Dobroděj,” “Proudy” and “Proč mě nikdo nemá rád.” The professionally precise orchestral and band accompaniment, including contributions from guitarist Ota Petřina, further enhanced their sound. Their promising career was soon hit by the cultural and political normalization period, which ostracized the politically unwelcome Kubišová for the next two decades, but the trio’s legacy from 1968–70 remains vital. This newly remastered 2LP edition follows the graphics and retro appearance of the original covers. The tracklist includes “Micro – Magic – Circus,” “The Beat Goes On,” “Atlantis” and “Strejček Charlie,” alongside the Czech songs and selected covers from the original albums.
